Residency or process-based artistic research
Während ökologische Zerstörung voranschreitet und Umweltfragen politisch wie gesellschaftlich aktuell an Gewicht verlieren, wird die Frage drängender: Was lässt sich heute noch tun? Die künstlerische Forschungsresidenz AUENLand what now? untersucht diese Frage im Thüringer Auenland an der Nesse. In einer Zusammenarbeit von der Deutschen Umwelthilfe mit dem Stockwerk e.V. und dem Studio Wägetechnik e.V. begleitet sie die Renaturierung eines bedrohten Feuchtlebensraums.
Die Nesse erscheint hier als ein vielschichtiger Landschaftsraum: ein lebendiges, ökologisches Gefüge, das durch menschliche Eingriffe aus dem Gleichgewicht geraten ist und nun, begleitet von ortsbezogener, prozesshafter Forschung, Schritt für Schritt regeneriert wird. Durch die künstlerische Praxis wird diese Entwicklung nicht nur sichtbar, sondern sinnlich nachvollziehbar: Sie eröffnet neue Zugänge zu ökologischen Zusammenhängen und legt offen, wie eng Natur, industrielle Nutzung, Verantwortung und lokales Wissen miteinander verwoben sind.
Perspektiven aus Kunst, Wissenschaft, Naturschutz und lokaler Gemeinschaft treten dabei in den Austausch.
As ecological destruction advances and environmental issues are losing political and societal priority, the question becomes increasingly urgent: what can still be done today? The artistic research residency AUENLand what now?explores this question in the floodplain landscape of Thuringia along the Nesse River. In a collaboration of the Deutsche Umwelthilfe, Stockwerk e.V. und Studio Wägetechnik e.V., it accompanies the restoration of a threatened wetland ecosystem.
Here, the Nesse appears as a multi-layered landscape: a living ecological system that has been thrown out of balance by human intervention and is now gradually regenerating through site-specific, process-based research. Artistic practice not only makes this development visible but also sensorially tangible. It opens up new ways of engaging with ecological interrelations and reveals how closely nature, industrial use, responsibility, and local knowledge are intertwined.
Perspectives from art, science, conservation, and the local community enter into dialogue.
Die künstlerische Forschungsresidenz AUENLand what now? widmet sich der Frage, wie auf ökologische Krisen heute noch sinnvoll reagiert werden kann, und untersucht dies konkret am Auenland an der Nesse. In Zusammenarbeit mit der Deutschen Umwelthilfe begleitet sie die Wiederherstellung eines bedrohten Feuchtgebiets und versteht die Landschaft selbst als aktiven Mitgestalter. Künstlerische Praxis wird dabei als forschender, offener Prozess eingesetzt, der ökologische, soziale und politische Zusammenhänge erfahrbar macht und unterschiedliche Perspektiven aus Kunst, Wissenschaft und lokaler Gemeinschaft zusammenbringt.
The artistic research residency AUENLand what now? addresses the question of how to meaningfully respond to ecological crises today, exploring it within the specific context of the Nesse floodplain landscape. In collaboration with the German Environmental Aid, it accompanies the restoration of a threatened wetland and understands the landscape itself as an active co-agent. Artistic practice is approached as an open, process-based form of research that makes ecological, social, and political interrelations tangible, bringing together perspectives from art, science, and the local community.

Christian Doeller verbindet künstlerische Forschung mit DIY-Umweltsensorik, um ökologische Prozesse erfahrbar zu machen. Dabei hinterfragt er technologische und wissenschaftliche Zugänge zur Wahrnehmung von Umwelt.

Yuko Kaseki erforscht in körperlichen, improvisationsbasierten Performances die Beziehung zwischen Körper und Umwelt. Ihre Arbeiten schaffen poetische Zustände, in denen sich beide gegenseitig durchdringen.
Yuko Kaseki explores the relationship between body and environment through physical, improvisation-based performances. Her work creates poetic states in which both continuously permeate each other.

Sam Auinger versteht Umwelt als sich wandelnden Klangraum und macht ökologische Prozesse
hörbar. Seine Arbeiten fördern eine bewusste, hörende Wahrnehmung von Stadt und Natur.
Sam Auinger understands the environment as a constantly changing sound space and makes ecological processes audible. His works encourage an attentive, listening-based perception of cities and nature.

Patricia Morosan untersucht in ihren
interdisziplinären Arbeiten Identität, Erinnerung und Intimität als räumliche und durch Umwelten geprägte
Erfahrungen. Dabei verbindet sie persönliche und kollektive Narrative mit ortsbezogenen Perspektiven.
